Thanks for spending another month with us, guys. I know things have been kind of weird lately due to maternity leave, but things are getting back to normal and I have some exciting things planned that I'm going to get into in a minute!

Upcoming Spotlights

Speaking of back to normal, spotlights are back! This week, we're accepting submissions for our Timelapse spotlight, which will be next week. For this, you can submit videos (especially reels) of your creative process and the finished piece. Submit by DMing it to us with the caption "timelapse spotlight" so we know to post your feature next week if you're approved. Small Account week is two weeks later. For those of you who haven't been here before, Small Account week is when we feature artists who have 1,000 or less followers only to help give them a boost. So if you're one of those artist, start thinking about what piece you want to submit!

Updates

Black Artist Space is now accepting video visuals for art features. This is for all the videographers out there! However, this does not include music videos for songs as that is considered performance art. If you have any questions about that, just let us know.

Another thing I want to discuss is how our BLM section is changing. It was originally solely for petitions and GoFundMe links to support victims of police violence. We've decided to also include any and every efforts to help Black people who are struggling in any way. We especially want to help

  • houseless (or on the verge of being houseless) Black people

  • young Black people and Black members of the LGBTQ+ community who are living in toxic and/or households

  • Black people who are suffering from serious and/or chronic conditions and illnesses that hinder them from fully caring for themselves

If you know of any GoFundMe campaigns for anyone who falls under these categories, please feel free to submit the info in an email to us with the title "BLM". We'll post them on our BLM page, as well as post the link in a story post on our instagram.

Black Artist Space plans to expand some more and eventually, we would love to start hosting physical art showcases around the country, and then the world. But for now, we want to start by doing virtual showcases and art contests where artists have the chance to not only be recognized for their work on our socials, but also earn prizes. These things will be in the works over the coming months. I'm thinking about doing a giveaway first to show you guys just how much we appreciate the support you give, even when algorithms make it so difficult. Feel free to comment on this post or send an email letting us know what kind of giveaway prizes you all would be interested in! We know not everyone who follows us is an artist, so we want to make sure free art supplies aren't the ONLY thing we give away 😅.

Submissions

Please remember that if your gallery or company is holding an official Call For Artists and you want us to get the word out to our following, we'll do so for free! All you have to do is fill out the application for CFAs here and we'll get back to you within 48 hours. You will be asked to provide an official flyer with the submission info on it, so have that at the ready.

Lastly, we are looking for more abstract artists to join our gallery's print shop! For those of you who don't know, we opened our print shop in April of 2021. Our shop consists of artists who have been featured in our gallery and allow us to produce, sell, and ship their prints for them! Click here for more information on how we do this.

some of our favorite prints that are currently being sold in the shop 🔼

We would like to feature and sell more abstract pieces. If you're interested in being a part of our shop and you've read all the information, please submit an application at the above link mentioned and we'll get back to you within 48 hours. Of course, we are open to all kinds of art, so please submit even if you aren't an abstract artist!

If you made it all the way to the end of this blog post, thanks so much for reading! Hopefully some or all of this info is of interest to you 😭 If not, definitely send to a friend!

Have a great week! 🖤
